Professors Otrude Moyo and Kate Wininger
Friday December 4th 5:00 pm Wishcamper Center. Room 102, USM, Portland
Two USM Professors, Kathleen
Wininger ( a Freeport resident) from Philosophy Department and
Women and Gender Studies,
and Otrude Moyo from Social Work will be reading from their most recent
books. Professors Wininger and Moyo do research on southern Africa and
on gender issues in Europe, America and other parts of Africa.
From PHILOSOPHY AND SEX,
“Spinster” is a word coming back into vogue as young people are
reviving, rejuvenating, and reclaiming the status of unmarried woman.
Professor Wininger looks at
the history of Spinsters and Bachelors and how the idea has come alive
again
in young women’s Blogs, Chick lit, and Sex & the City.
From TRAMPLED NO MORE , Western Zimbabwe has born a great deal of stress during recent economic hardships. Through local people’s narratives, Professor Moyo will discuss the creative ways people have coped with these challenges.

The Choral Art Society Presents
Christmas at the Cathedral
December 5 and 6
Christmas at the Cathedral is an annual Christmas
holiday favorite for many seeking respite from the whirlwind of
Christmas.
A concert that emphasizes the beauty of song, the sound of trumpets and
brass from the Portland Brass Quintet and the beauty of the organ
at the adept hands and feet of organist Dan Moore, Christmas at the
Cathedral provides an opportunity for calm reflection of the joys of the
season.
This year the Choral Art Singers will present a new work, Charles
Kaufmann’s “A Longfellow Winter.” CAS commissioned this
piece from Kaufmann, an award-winning composer and the founding director
of The Longfellow Chorus.
Christmas at the Cathedral is scheduled for Saturday, December
5, with a noon preview and 8:00 p.m. concert
and on Sunday, December 6 at 2:30 p.m. and
